The Uncomfortable Truth About Teaching: Reflections from My Conversation with Dr. Kevin Berkopes

Recently, I had the privilege of being interviewed by Dr. Kevin Berkopes to discuss one of the realities that many educators experience but few openly address.

Many teachers enter the profession full of passion and hope. Then they step into their classrooms and quickly realize that teaching involves much more than delivering lessons. Students arrive with different learning needs, life experiences, challenges, and strengths. The gap between teacher preparation and classroom reality is often much larger than expected.

That conversation reminded me why I continue doing the work I do through AdaZion Educational Consulting and Kingdom Life Virtual Academy.

Whether I am designing curriculum, coaching educators, creating instructional resources, or supporting families, my goal has always been to help bridge that gap. Effective education requires more than content knowledge—it requires understanding how students learn, building confidence, and creating meaningful learning experiences that meet children where they are.

Throughout my career, I have been passionate about helping educators simplify instruction without lowering expectations. I believe students learn best when they are actively engaged, encouraged to think critically, and given opportunities to build understanding step by step.

I appreciate Dr. Kevin Berkopes for creating space for these important conversations. The more educators honestly discuss both the joys and challenges of teaching, the better equipped we become to support one another and ultimately serve our students well.

If you have not yet watched the interview, I encourage you to take a few moments to read and listen HERE.

I hope it encourages teachers, homeschool families, and educational leaders alike as we continue working together to strengthen education for the next generation.
